Breakout rooms

In a group consultation, you can use breakout rooms to create smaller groups of callers for an activity. You move callers to each of the rooms. At the end of the activity, you clear the breakout rooms and return all callers to the main call.

Note: You cannot use breakout rooms when running a group consultation from a mobile. Participants can attend via mobile, however.

Move callers between rooms

Each group consultation comes with 3 breakout rooms. You can move callers to rooms at any time by following these steps:

  1. In the call screen, select More and then Rooms.

  2. Select Move callers between rooms.

  3. For each caller you want to move, choose a Room.

  4. Select Move callers now.

Callers receive a notification on their call screen when they have been moved into a breakout room.

Join or leave a breakout room

As the moderator, you can join or leave any of the in-use breakout rooms at any time. You need to move callers to a room before you can join it.

To join a breakout room, follow these steps:

  1. In the call screen, select More and then Rooms.

  2. Find the room that you want to join.

  3. Select Join.

To leave a breakout room, follow these steps:

  1. In the call screen, select More and then Rooms.

  2. Optional. Find a different room that you want to join and select Join.

  3. Select Leave.

Clear a breakout room

To move all the callers from a breakout room back to the main call you can clear it by following these steps::

  1. In the call screen, select More and then Rooms.

  2. In the Rooms list, find the room that you want to clear.

  3. Select More and then Clear this room.

All the callers in the room, including you, move back to the main call. Clearing a room does not delete it, you can reuse it at any time in the group consultation.

Rename a breakout room

Each group consultation comes with 3 breakout rooms named 1, 2, and 3. Use names which are more familiar to your group by following these steps:

  1. In the call screen, select More and then Rooms.

  2. In the Rooms list, find the room that you want to rename.

  3. Select More and then Rename.

  4. Enter a short name that participants will understand.

  5. Select Rename room.

Chat messages in breakout rooms

If an administrator has turned on chat for the group-consultation waiting area, you can send messages to callers in the same breakout room as you. You cannot send messages to callers in other rooms.

When you move a caller to a room, they do not see any previous chat history. Neither do you. Callers only see the messages which are sent after they joined the room.

Chat messages from the main call are deleted when you move to a breakout room. A breakout room also deletes messages when you return to the main call.
